US EMBASSY PROMOTES BUNAKEN MARINE SUSTAINABILITY

Manado, North Sulawesi

The Jakarta Post - JPlus - - Talk Of The Town -

Local scientists and top diplomats of the US Embassy in Jakarta recently visited Manado to study the rich marine diversity of Bunaken National Marine Park and learn about Indonesia’s efforts to preserve its ocean environment.

This visit serves as a follow-up event to the 2016 Our Ocean conference that was held in September in Washington, DC. The conference’s focus was on promoting the “Blue Economy” and sustainable fishing. Indonesia is set to host this conference in 2018.

“Marine parks, such as Bunaken, are incredibly valuable to local livelihoods and by engaging in the protection and management of the area, economic development and environmental protection can be balanced,” said the US Embassys chargé daffaires, Brian McFeeters.
