MORE THAN 8,000 IN­DONE­SIANS STUDY IN US

The 2016 Open Doors Re­port on In­ter­na­tional Ed­u­ca­tional Ex­change, re­leased on Nov. 14, said the num­ber of stu­dents from In­done­sia study­ing in the United States num­bered at 8,727, the high­est num­ber in 12 years, mak­ing In­done­sia the 19th lead­ing place of ori­gin among in­ter­na­tional stu­dents in the US, with an in­crease of nearly 26 per­cent since 2010. There are cur­rently 1.04 mil­lion in­ter­na­tional stu­dents study­ing in the US. From 2015-2016, 66.7 per­cent of In­done­sian stu­dents were en­rolled at the un­der­grad­u­ate level, 18.6 per­cent pur­sued grad­u­ate stud­ies, 11.3 per­cent pur­sued op­tional prac­ti­cal train­ing, and 3.4 per­cent en­rolled in non-de­gree pro­grams such as English lan­guage or short-term stud­ies.

The re­lease of the re­port co­in­cides with In­ter­na­tional Ed­u­ca­tion Week, an ini­tia­tive through which the US Em­bassy pro­motes the ben­e­fits of in­ter­na­tional ed­u­ca­tion.
