We are delighted that the number of tourists to Yogya continues to rise every year, and they come not only from within Indonesia, but also from many overseas nations. In 2012, we welcomed 2 million visitors, and in 2013 we expect to far exceed that number. In the following pages, you will see the many places to visit and memorable experiences to enjoy during a visit to the area. Most visitors will find there is always something to keep them occupied during their stays; in fact, it is often the case that they encounter difficulties fitting in everything they want to do. Of course, the best solution is to return for another trip in the future.

We continue to improve infrastructure in Yogya, including tourism facilities. Yogya is today one of Indonesia’s most dynamic cities for development, with easy telecommunications and state- of- the- art services.

I also wish to use this opportunity to deliver grateful appreciation to the many people who work in the hospitality industry in Yogya. They are on the front- line in serving visitors to our region, and do an excellent job in leaving a lasting favorable impression.

Not to be forgotten are the charming and friendly people of Yogyakarta. They are renowned throughout Indonesia for their gentle and hospitable nature, and as such are naturally gracious hosts for all our visitors.

In closing, I trust you will enjoy your visit to Yogya – hopefully, it will be the first of many.

May God bring peace, guidance and protection to us all.
