Abu­sive teacher fired af­ter video spread

JAKARTA: A teacher at the Kidea Podomoro Preschool and Kinder­garten in Tan­jung Duren, West Jakarta, has been fired af­ter footage show­ing her mis­treat­ing a stu­dent was spread via chat ap­pli­ca­tion What­sApp, kom­pas.com re­ported on Fri­day.

In the 38-sec­ond video, the teacher was seen drag­ging a tod­dler down to the floor and forc­ing the child to sit cross-legged in front of her. The child was cry­ing and ex­hibit­ing signs of fear. The footage showed the teacher dis­play­ing no signs of com­pas­sion.

An­other teacher who ap­pears in the same room in the video ap­peared to ig­nore the in­ci­dent, seem­ing to be en­grossed in her own du­ties.

A sep­a­rate teacher, who de­clined to be iden­ti­fied, con­firmed that the in­ci­dent hap­pened at the school where she worked.

“The video footage is real, and our head­mas­ter is in­ves­ti­gat­ing the case,” she said as quoted by kom­pas.com. She added that the teacher be­hav­ing abu­sively in the footage was fired on Thurs­day. — JP
