Set up in 2002 by Dr Sarah Fane OBE, Afghan Connection (AC) is working with some of the most disadvantaged communities in Afghanistan, listening to their needs and through its projects, providing the building blocks for stability and peace. AC has funded 43 school constructions across Afghanistan for over 50,000 children, many of whom have illiterate parents. AC also runs cricket projects, using cricket to promote peace through sport. Since 2011, AC’S educational model has focused support on the remote Takhar Province in North East Afghanistan. Here the charity has built 12 schools for over 7000 children; provided community based classes for 1800 children who would otherwise have no access to education; offered training courses to 800 teachers and supported the district education departments to help sustain the projects in the long term. In an area where barely a single adult woman can read or write, now almost every girl and boy attends school. For more information, please visit www.afghanconnection.org
