Northern innovation

CONNECTING TO THE ENORMOUS POTENTIAL OF CANADA’S ONGOING GROWTH, BCE NEXXIA FOCUSSES ON INNOVATION TO MEET THE NEEDS OF ITS CUSTOMERS.

When you know the facts, it’s no wonder so many companies worldwide are looking to Canada for growth opportunities.

Both Forbes and Bloomberg endorse Canada as the best country in the G-20 in which to do business. The World Economic Forum says Canada’s banking system has been the soundest in the world for eight straight years. Canada’s total business tax costs are by far the lowest in the G-7, and it has led all G-7 countries in economic growth over the last 10 years. There is every reason to believe that growth will continue.

Finding the right partner

As a result, international service providers are increasingly reaching into Canada to meet the needs of customers who have expanded their operations there.

“Partnering with an established local service provider can make things much easier,” says Adel Bazerghi, president of BCE Nexxia and senior vice president of Bell Canada Wholesale. “It eliminates the need to build networks, gives fast access to geographically dispersed areas – important in gigantic Canada – and ensures an established network of local suppliers.”

In that context, he adds, it makes sense to look for two things in a Canadian partner: one, a company that already operates an extensive and robust network and two, an organisation committed to innovation.

BCE Nexxia ticks both those boxes. As part of Canada’s largest communications company, Bell Canada, BCE Nexxia offers a comprehensive portfolio of wholesale products and services, leveraging more than 5.5 million kilometres of fibre with links to more than 33 carrier hotels and data centres across the continent. It’s all operated by an extensive team of experts and a 24/7 help desk that supports the company’s commitment to 99.999% availability.

“Just as important,” says Adel, “Bell Canada has committed to invest a further $20 billion by 2020 to ensure our broadband networks and services keep pace.”

Ethernet: fast, flexible and agile

A key focus of that investment is Ethernet, the global standard of networking. “Ethernet is the basis of a virtuous cycle, with innovation fuelling demand and demand fuelling innovation,” says Adel. “That’s why Ethernet has become service providers’ go-to option for connecting customers to high-speed, bandwidth-intensive services.”

Because it runs on Canada’s largest and most advanced fibre optic network, BCE Nexxia Ethernet enables customers and their end users to connect their locations across the country with low-latency, point-to-point access that supports mission-critical applications.

“Our network offers a fully redundant core using state-of-the-art technology,” says Adel. “This ensures a secure core topology and decreases single points of failure. And thanks to our convenient meet-me points in the US – and soon to come to London, England – providers can cost-effectively and quickly extend their reach into Canada without the need for major capital investment.” The company is the first in Canada to receive two certifications from the Metro Ethernet Forum, the defining body for Carrier Ethernet, and is on target to receive MEF CE 2.0 certification this year.

Continuous enhancements

“We also understand that we must invest in innovation to make sure our offering continues to meet customers’ needs for technology that is fast, flexible and agile,” says Adel.

For example, BCE Nexxia is implementing SDN and NFV technologies in its Carrier Ethernet offerings, enabling shorter service intervals, lower costs and faster deployments.

The company has also introduced numerous other innovations, including a range of new Ethernet Virtual Connection speeds from 2 to 10 Gbps to provide a cost-effective way for service providers to meet their varied demands. Also, the launch of new reporting tools such as Connectivity Fault Management will help service providers better manage the performance of their Ethernet network.

“In these ways and more, we offer partners a way into the ongoing growth of Canadian markets through one of the most robust, reliable and advanced telecommunications infrastructures in the world.” For more information, please visit www.bcenexxia.com
