SU­PER SEA CA­BLE NET­WORKS LAUNCHES SEAX CA­BLE IN SIN­GA­PORE

A new 250km sub­ma­rine ca­ble sys­tem has been launched con­nect­ing Sin­ga­pore to the US via Guam.

Su­per Sea Ca­ble Net­works’ SEAX sys­tem is aimed at whole­sale car­ri­ers for emerg­ing mar­kets, and will di­vided in three de­vel­op­ment phases be­tween 2016 and 2021.

The first phase will see Sin­ga­pore con­nected with Malaysia and In­done­sia, draw­ing traf­fic from the re­gion to­wards Sin­ga­pore and out to the rest of the world. The sec­ond phase will see the ca­ble sys­tem linked to the US through the Mi­crone­sia re­gion of the Pa­cific, run­ning through Guam. Phase three will con­nect Asian coun­tries in­clud­ing Bangladesh, Myan­mar, Thai­land, Malaysia and In­done­sia, with Sin­ga­pore act­ing as a tran­sit hub to the rest of the world. The fi­bre-op­tic ca­ble will be con­structed by Huawei Ma­rine.
