FACE­BOOK AND MI­CROSOFT SELECT TE SUB­COM AS THEIR MAREA PART­NER

Face­book and Mi­crosoft have se­lected TE Sub­com as their sup­ply part­ner for the new 6,600km trans-at­lantic MAREA sub­ma­rine ca­ble sys­tem.

The tech giants an­nounced in May that they had teamed up to build the sys­tem the firms claim “will be the high­est­ca­pac­ity sub­sea ca­ble to ever cross the At­lantic with speeds of 160Tbps”. The sys­tem is set to fea­ture eight fi­bre-pairs and is be­ing con­structed “to be in­ter­op­er­a­ble with a wide va­ri­ety of net­work equip­ment”.

TE Sub­com has com­pleted the route sur­vey for the sys­tem, which will stretch from Vir­ginia Beach in the US to Bil­bao, Spain, and has be­gun man­u­fac­tur­ing at its fa­cil­ity in New­ing­ton, New Hamp­shire.
