Viasat is planning to order three Viasat-3 Ka-band satellites to expand its coverage globally with throughput capacity of 1Tbps for each of the satellites. The first two satellites will focus on the Americas and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Viasat-2 will be the world’s highest capacity communications satellite when launches in early 2017 with an estimated 350Gbps of capacity. Projects:
American Airlines (AA): Exclusive agreement to provide high-speed in-flight Wifi connectivity to a new 737 MAX fleet of it AA planes, harnessing the bandwidth capabilities of the Ka-band, which covers the 26.5-40GHZ frequencies.
Air Force One: Upgrading and supplying in-flight broadband and communications services to the US president’s aircraft. As a result of a $73 million deal the US government will have access to services such as real-time intelligence and HD video conferencing.
