ON TRACK TO LUXURY IN AUSTRALIA
AUSTRALIA’S VAST OUTBACK MAY not be the safest place – with countless critters wielding lethal claws, jaws and venom – but there is a way to explore the land Down Under in comfort and style. Great Southern Rail has unveiled the newly refitted and refurbished Chairmans Carriage, its newest Indian Pacific luxury rail experience. Let the train take the strain between Sydney and Perth via Adelaide, or vice versa, with the option of features three Platinum Double and one Platinum Twin cabin, fully equipped with a private lounge area with TV and bar facilities. The new carriage coincides with the 100th anniversary of the completion of the Sydney to Perth railway line, and guests are also being offered new off-rail experiences, such as an intimate foodie tour of Adelaide Hills, with a local artisan chocolate or cheese producer, followed by dinner in the historic town of Hahndorf. Other off-rail experiences between Perth and Sydney include Kalgoorlie for a theatre performance of Paddy Hannan’s Ounce of Luck production, the story of boom and bust in this mining town, and a special Outback breakfast hosted in Rawlinna, a remote Nullarbor town. Later in the year, a special cricket-themed package will be offered when the 2017–18 Ashes series takes place in Perth. At the end of the year the Chairmans Carriage will transfer to the equally luxurious The Ghan, offering a similarly exclusive experience between Darwin and Adelaide, via Alice Springs and vice versa.
