FOR KIDS WITH A FAS­CI­NA­TION FOR TUR­TLES AND PAR­ENTS THAT love the lav­ish, there may be no bet­ter place to be than Jumby Bay Is­land – the for­mer Rose­wood prop­erty just an­nounced and re­named as Oetker Col­lec­tion’s new­est re­sort des­ti­na­tion – this au­tumn. The pri­vate is­land in An­tigua is home to the Jumby Bay Hawks­bill Project, the world’s long­est-run­ning pri­vately funded hawks­bill sea tur­tle re­search pro­gramme – and a new ex­pe­ri­ence pack­age in­tends to im­merse guests in all things tur­tle. Avail­able through nest­ing sea­son (un­til mid-Novem­ber), the Early Nester Hawks­bill Tur­tle Ex­pe­ri­ence will suit eco­minded fam­i­lies, with a four night stay for two adults plus two chil­dren un­der 12) of­fer­ing pri­vate ex­cur­sions with a tur­tle ex­pert to see nest­ing tur­tles and pos­si­ble hatch­lings while learn­ing how to protect their en­vi­ron­ments; nightly tur­tle watches to see eggs be­ing laid; a pri­vate snorkelling trip that of­fers in­sight on the coral reefs that protect the creatures; and a pri­vate fam­ily din­ner on the beach. A mix of ed­u­ca­tion and lux­ury well worth div­ing into.
