KVH In­dus­tries, Inc., has rolled out an on­board ter­mi­nal for its mini-VSAT Broad­band ser­vice, the TracPhone V7-IP. It features a 3-axis, gyro-sta­bi­lized an­tenna and a com­pletely in­te­grated be­lowdecks unit that in­cludes an Ar­cLight spread spec­trum mo­dem and KVH’s IP- en­abled an­tenna con­trol unit with a built-in Comm­Box Ship/Shore Net­work Man­ager, Voice over IP adapter, Eth­er­net switch and WiFi adapter. The Com­mBoxACU pro­vides a full suite of on­board ser­vices for satel­lite com­mu­ni­ca­tions, in­clud­ing crys­tal clear VoIP call­ing, in­ter­net café, crew call­ing, man­aged e-mail, se­cure file de­liv­ery and re­mote net­work ac­cess. For the ves­sel owner’s IT man­ager, the TracPhone V7- IP pro­vides ex­ten­sive func­tion­al­ity to help man­age on­board net­works re­motely. The sys­tem it­self is very easy for the crew to op­er­ate thanks to a web browser based user in­ter­face that in­cludes an iPhone app. For the mariner, it is cost ef­fec­tive and easy to in­stall.
