The world’s first quartz wrist­watch cost as much as the fam­ily car when it was in­tro­duced on Christ­mas Day in 1969 in a yel­low gold case at a price of 450,000 yen. Though the Swiss Beta 21 project de­buted the fol­low­ing year, it was Seiko that pop­u­lar­ized the tech­nol­ogy mak­ing the wrist­watch a far more ac­cu­rate in­stru­ment in terms of pre­ci­sion.
