Plaza Watch: How was Africa? Mila Kunis: Incredible. Seeing how genuinely and honestly they care about the people of Zambia was impressive. And the mine – it was huge! Massive! I loved learning how they get the gems from the earth, how many years it took to form them. It was fantastic. What was your impression of jewellery before you started working with Gemfields?

– I can’t even say I was a jewellery lover. I’ve been learning to appreciate fashion over the past few years, and I’m now learning to appreciate jewellery. All I can say is that I was never really into diamonds. I was drawn to rubies because my mother and grandmother wore them. How did the partnership with Gemfields come up?

– It was brought to me. And I knew I’d never be a part of a company I don’t believe in. I made that mistake once before and it was terrible. I only want to work with companies that give back. I was told to trust the company, that it was transparent, that they take pride in what they do. It sounds like a dream, I thought. And it was. So I take it you’ll be wearing a lot of big emeralds from now on?

– Oh yeah. I’m drawn to darker emeralds and I’m in a phase where I like rose gold. But next year, I’m going to love me some rubies.
