The inspiration for the Alpina Startimer Pilot automatic collection is clearly rooted in Alpina’s history, which began with the supply of military aviation watches to continental air forces. The latest ‘Sunstar’ model however boasts a more elegant specification in its design. At the collection’s core is its primary theme of professionalism and precision in functionality, which is the brand’s way of staying true to what the company originally specialised in. The requirements of an aviation watch are illustrated in the practicality of the latest timepiece with its characteristically large luminous numerals, 44mm stainless steel case and cloudy grey dial to ensure absolute clarity of readability. These classic aspects of aviation design are carried in the Sunstar and yet this model has undergone a slight makeover, perhaps with the aim of making it more elegant and suitable for any man’s wrist at any time. It has incorporated added bonus details by paying attention to fine details on the dial finishing, applied numerals and the minutes ring. To top off this beautifully simple, highly pragmatic watch is the sneak peek through the anti-reflective sapphire crystal caseback, which opens up the doors to see the artistry of the movement.
