Chopard once again cel­e­brate the 26th spon­sor­ship of the leg­endary ‘thou­sand mile’ en­durance race, the Mille Miglia. Plaza Founder Christo­pher Ostlund re­ports on a re­fined Ital­ian week­end soaking up the sight of some ex­tra­or­di­nary clas­sic cars.

It’s surely a fine achieve­ment in life, to com­bine your hobby with a suc­cess­ful business. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele has made that fine ac­com­plish­ment. Mr. Scheufele and his fam­ily own the global lux­ury brand Chopard. And Scheufele’s du­ties as co-pres­i­dent do not pre­vent him from en­joy­ing one of his most ar­dent pas­sions… clas­sic cars. Housed in an im­pres­sive garage he owns a fleet of clas­sic cars that would make any hon­est col­lec­tor or enthusiast turn green with envy.

And ev­ery time Scheufele com­petes in the renowned Mille Miglia race in Italy, his cars in­crease in value, since they have par­tic­i­pated as one of only 375 cars ac­cepted in the race, which means only cars pro­duced be­tween 1927 and 1957.

For Chopard, Mille Miglia is a fam­ily ad­ven­ture. Fa­ther and son both share a pas­sion for vin­tage cars and this year Scheufele ju­nior par­tic­i­pated in the race for the 26th time. For once Scheufele se­nior did not race, but like oth­ers sup­port­ing the race, sim­ply en­joyed the Ital­ian am­biance.
