Romain Gauthier Logical One Secret

Plaza Watch International - - The Best of Baselworld 2014 - YJMD

With the limited edition Logical One Secret in red gold, Romain Gauthier has sought to fuse fine art and award-winning haute horlogerie. Already named the Best Men’s Complications Watch by the jury of the 2013 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, where he built on the legacies of legendary watchmakers from the past by reinventing the chain and fusée, removing the conventional winding crown and improving the mainspring barrel, he decided to up the ante and add even more artistry to the timepiece by introducing a fully-integrated cover that effectively became an ideal canvas for artwork, hence the addition of the word “Secret” to the watch’s name. Paying homage to the art of gem setting, with its cover closed, hours, minutes and small seconds are highlighted amidst 181 invisibly-set baguette-cut diamonds, totalling nearly seven carats. Without any visible support, each grooved diamond appears larger and allows for the fully unobstructed reflection and refraction of light. Press the discreet button at four o’clock to open the cover and take in the complex multi-patented in-house designed and manufactured flat chain-and-fusée constant force movement with ergonomic push-button winding system at nine o’clock, dial-side visible balance and 60-hour power reserve indicator. The highest level fine watchmaking finishing is incorporated into the movement, including hand-polished screws and jewel countersinks, and hand-bevelled and polished bridges and plates featuring double-angle bevels with sharp internal angles. The type of artwork able to be showcased on the cover could be extended to miniature painting, enamelling, guilloché and engraving, limited only by the client’s imagination.
