OMEGA’S OLYMPIC SPECIAL
In February 2014, during a tense and world-news grabbing political situation between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games took place. Sport was kept separate from world politics and thankfully the event ran smoothly. Which Omega was sure to be glad about. Omega has had a long lasting relationship with event since 1932, acting as the Official Timekeeper 26 times.
Commemorating the event Omega released an Olympic Collection with three special edition wristwatches inspired by the Olympic spirit and the colours of the flag. The pick of the bunch is the Seamaster Planet Ocean Sochi 2014 45.5mm, a limited edition gent’s watch with a brushed and polished stainless steel case and fitted bracelet. The matt black ceramic bezel features a white dot at the top that emits a green light the diving bezel, as does the minute hand. This contrasts with a blue light, created by white Super-LumiNova, that shines from the applied indexes on the matt black dial and the faceted rhodium-plated hands. The bezel also features blue lacquered markers for minutes 1-5 and red ones for 6-10. In keeping with the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M design, the minutes for 11-15 are also indicated in a discreet silvery lacquer.
The caseback, brushed and screw-in, is of course embossed with the “Sochi 2014” Olympic logo and engraved with “Si14” together with the limited edition number (0000/2014). Powering this wintry beast is Omegas redoubtable Co-Axial calibre 8500, which features the brand’s exclusive Si14 silicon balance spring. So confident are they in the reliability of this timepiece, Omega includes a full four-year warranty with every purchase.
