Mille & Motorsports

Plaza Watch International - - News -

Always charismatic and infinitely curious, Richard Mille has ensured his eponymous brand has connections in an ever-expanding range of industries and endeavors. Motorsports however, have always has a particularly prominent place in the company’s 15-year history. After all, we’re talking about watches that are a ‘racing machine on the wrist’. In a recent burst of activity, Mille has further enhanced the brand’s bond with the world of motorsports with three new landmark partnerships. The first is a long-term partnership with the McLarenHonda Formula 1 team – a great synergy there considering both companies share a passion for technique, cutting-edge design and precision engineering. Plaza Watch was present at the historic signing of this union, and Mille said, “The chance to partner with McLaren is particularly timely: we’ve been evaluating Formula 1 on a restricted basis for several years, but this opportunity has enabled us to engage in a deeper, more meaningful way, with proper focus and effort directed on a major team.

For me, the association with McLaren is so striking, because I still vividly remember, back in 1981, when McLaren was the first constructor to introduce an all-carbonfibre monocoque to Formula 1. It was a technology that would revolutionise the sport – and still does to this day. Years later I was able to adopt the same technical solution – a carbon fibre – for the baseplates of our watch movements and cases… this will be a thrilling partnership.”

Secondly, Richard Mille has become the Official Partner to the new Haas F1 Team, which will make its debut in the FIA Formula One World Championship this season, becoming the first American-led Formula One team in 30 years. The partnership is not only another natural fit but is also a strategic one for Richard Mille, as America is a key market for the company. One of the drivers for the new team, Romain Grosjean, has been a brand ambassador since 2014 and personally owns a range of Mille watches. “I am very proud to continue wearing Richard Mille as a partner and as a driver for Haas F1 Team,” Grosjean says. “There is no better watch brand to align with the DNA of Formula One.”

Finally, the British luxury sports car brand Aston Martin and Richard Mille have announced a long-term global partnership and racing collaboration. The partnership will see Richard Mille and his skilled group of developers and watchmakers work directly with the design team at Aston Martin led by Marek Reichman, Chief Creative Officer, on an exciting new collection of exclusive Richard Mille watches featuring the iconic Aston Martin wings. In addition, Richard Mille will support the Aston Martin Racing team in the FIA World Endurance Championship, 24 Hours of Le Mans and Nürburgring 24 Hours. Safe to say Richard Mille is something of a petrol head. As long as his watches display the same extreme level of precision engineering, his company will continue to reach new heights.
