THE JOY OF TRAVEL IS EXPERIENCING something of the world, and that experience is central to the offerings at Sheraton Grand London Park Lane. At this hotel, the best of the world is brought together under one roof.

NEW ER A The Sheraton Grand London Park Lane has been a landmark hotel since 1927, but the 303 guest rooms and public spaces recently underwent a multimillion- dollar renovation, bringing the best Art Deco touches into the 21st century. The corridors are just as wide, giving an airy, luxurious feeling to the place, and the exterior still boasts a mansard roof and a white MarmoFaience façade.

Among the new additions are 43 Sheraton Club Rooms and suites, which offer exclusive access to a private lounge where guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast, a taster of The Palm Court afternoon tea, a full bar, and evening canapés.

The 21 suites have been designed to take full advantage of the hotel’s Mayfair location, with leafy views over Green Park. The Grand Suite has its own entrance lobby, master suite, and living and dining areas, all interconnected via double-width sliding pocket doors.

INTERNATIONAL DINING Friends and family can enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean at the recently launched Mercate, an eatery that takes its cue from Rome, Venice, and Naples, where life revolves around local markets.

Head Chef Davide D’ignazio has a background working in Michelin-starred kitchens throughout Europe, most recently as chef de cuisine for Antonello Colonna at his restaurant in Labico, Italy. His menu changes regularly, depending on what’s in season and available fresh. If you’d prefer your main course as an appetizer, or your starter as an entrée, dishes are available in “small,” “medium,” or “large” sizes. Mediterranean breakfasts are especially satisfying, with a regular selection of cold cuts and cheese served alongside warm, freshly baked bread.

International flavor carries over to the Caffé Musetti, which serves pastries, fruit salads, morning coffee, and evening drinks.

The hotel’s tavern, Smith & Whistle, provides cocktails, craft beers, and conversation, with a menu focused on easily shared English favorites like potted South Devon crab.

DECOROUS HISTORY In the hotel’s famous Palm Court Lounge, the Art Nouveau stained-glass ceiling upholds the stately tradition of the grand hotel lounges of the 1920s and ’30s. As in those elegant times, the lounge serves breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner, and cocktails, with additional small plates on offer through Paired, the Sheraton food and beverage program that suggests perfect accompaniments of premium wines and local craft beers.

In the lobby, one can view more pieces of the hotel’s picturesque history, including an old key for room 845, the original mortgage book for the hotel, a 1939 letter from Sir Bracewell Smith informing guests that The Park Lane is one of the safest places to be in London (despite the dangers of World War II), and copies of The Park Lane Courier, a custom-printed magazine dated 1929-30.

This is London, as it remembers itself and as a living city.
