BEYOND EATING RIGHT AND WORKING out, mindfulness has taken on even more importance in our overly connected world. That’s just one reason that Seabourn, in partnership with The Onboard Spa by Steiner, introduced a fleetwide mindful living program with integrative medicine pioneer Dr. Andrew Weill. Incorporating physical, social, environmental, and spiritual well-being, the program is led by a wellness guide, a certified yoga and meditation practitioner who educates and inspires guests throughout a variety of classes and activities.
In addition to daily meditation and yoga sessions, guests can also take advantage of complimentary Mind and Body Seminars created by Dr. Weill and Steiner’s wellness professionals. Highlights include Spontaneous Happiness & Spontaneous Healing, Anti-Inflammatory Foods, Healthy Aging, and Introduction to Mindful Meditation. Dr. Weill will also sail on a Seabourn ship each year where he will present a 60-minute lecture as well as participate in more intimate informal group discussions. A team of wellness experts will also make regular visits to the Seabourn fleet.
“This new wellness program will offer our guests an experience they simply won’t find anywhere else in the industry,” says Richard Meadows, president of Seabourn. “By partnering with Dr. Weill, we will deliver an even greater degree of mind and body programs that ensure you can break away, relax, and rejuvenate while you travel with us.”
Small ship cruise lines are getting in on the act as well. This year, UnCruise Adventures launched three wellness-themed cruises in Alaska and one in Mexico’s Sea of Cortes. The cruises feature certified trainers, nutritionists, skincare experts, and yogis from Life Time—The Healthy Way of Life Company.
“A wellness theme is a perfect fit for our guests who enjoy being active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle while on vacation,” says UnCruise captain and CEO Dan Blanchard. As we look to disconnect from all the unhealthy distractions in life, a wellness-themed cruise certainly helps to make health and well-being a priority.
