IF IT’ S FREE, IT’ S FOR ME
Two of Baltimore’s best museums — the Walters Art Museum and Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) — cost absolutely nothing to get in. The BMA boasts a fantastic collection, including the world’s largest holdings of work by Henri Matisse, while the Walters contains a sprawling assemblage of art ranging from ancient Egyptian mummies to Art Nouveau jewelry. Bonus: My favorite museum in town might be the American Visionary Art Museum (above), the only such place in America showcasing “outsider” or untrained artists. Admission to the museum isn’t free, but there’s no charge to browse its incomparable gift shop, which alone is worth a visit.
