CBI warns Iranians against investing on bitcoin
Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) cautioned people on Wednesday about making investment on cryptocurrencies, particularly bitcoin.
“No central bank in the world guarantees bitcoin. I have ordered my colleagues to study the stances adopted by other countries’ central banks towards this cryptocurrency. No central bank has, so far, given any guarantee for this.” added Valiollah Seif, IRNA reported.
He added the CBI is studying the issue in-depth and will express its opinion about it more explicitly in the future.
Cryptocurrencies pose potential risks to security of bank clients. The recent cyberattacks by “ransomware” hackers encrypted the victim’s data and demanded that they send payment in bitcoin in order to regain access to their computers.
