Iranians bag four Asian cycling medals

Iranian cyclists collected four medals including two silvers at the 2018 Asian Road and Para Cycling Championsh­ips in Myanmar.

On Monday, the 36-year-old Mahdi Sohrabi took part in the men’s elite road race competitio­ns, and completed the 176km task for a third-place finish, Press TV reported.

Moreover, Mohammad Ganj-khanlou finished second in the men’s road race, and scooped the silver medal.

A cyclist from Japan stood atop the podium while the cyclist from Mongolia settled for the bronze.

Earlier in the competitio­ns, Arvin Moaz’zami had represente­d Iran in the men’s individual road race time trial on Saturday, and completed the 42km race in 50:52 minutes to sit in the third place.

Hong Kong’s Cheung King-lok snatched the gold medal after he crossed the finish line in 49:53 minutes – three seconds ahead of old rival Choe Hyeong-min of South Korea.

Additional­ly, Iran’s six-a-side team comprising Sohrabi, Moaz’zami, Mir-samad Pour-seyyedi, Mohammad Rajablou and Mohammad-esmaeil Chaichi finished second in the men’s elite team time trial, following Japan while Hong Kong occupied the third spot.

The tournament took place in Myanmar’s capital city of Nay Pyi Taw on February 6-12.
