World documentaries awaiting Iran’s festival
A large number of international documentarians will take part in the 12th Iran International Documentary Film Festival, known as Cinema Vérité, which is scheduled for December 9-16, in Tehran.
According to the festival’s secretariat, 4,000 short-, semi-long and long documentaries from 100 countries have so far been submitted for participation in the 12th Cinema Vérité, IRNA reported.
Documentaries from countries ranging from Thailand, Pakistan and Japan to the US, Denmark and France, are to take part in this year’s event. The lineup, to be disclosed later, is said to include selected and acclaimed documentaries from the most important documentary festivals of the world such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, Idfa, Hot Docs, Karlovy Vary, Visions du Réel and Cinema du Réel.
The Iranian documentary event is organized by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) to showcase the world’s very best of documentary in an attempt to bridge the gap between reality and truth.
It has three international and another three national competition sections for short, mid-length and feature-length documentaries. The festival also enjoys numerous non-competition sections such as Mirror of a Festival, Our Time, Our Universe and Portrait.
In the non-competitive section, documentaries from Germany, Austria and Switzerland will be introduced to the silver screen.
