World doc­u­men­taries await­ing Iran’s fes­ti­val

A large num­ber of in­ter­na­tional doc­u­men­tar­i­ans will take part in the 12th Iran In­ter­na­tional Doc­u­men­tary Film Fes­ti­val, known as Cinema Vérité, which is sched­uled for De­cem­ber 9-16, in Tehran.

Ac­cord­ing to the fes­ti­val’s sec­re­tar­iat, 4,000 short-, semi-long and long doc­u­men­taries from 100 coun­tries have so far been sub­mit­ted for par­tic­i­pa­tion in the 12th Cinema Vérité, IRNA re­ported.

Doc­u­men­taries from coun­tries rang­ing from Thai­land, Pak­istan and Ja­pan to the US, Den­mark and France, are to take part in this year’s event. The lineup, to be dis­closed later, is said to in­clude se­lected and ac­claimed doc­u­men­taries from the most im­por­tant doc­u­men­tary fes­ti­vals of the world such as Cannes, Ber­lin, Venice, Lo­carno, Idfa, Hot Docs, Karlovy Vary, Vi­sions du Réel and Cinema du Réel.

The Ira­nian doc­u­men­tary event is or­ga­nized by the Doc­u­men­tary and Ex­per­i­men­tal Film Cen­ter (DEFC) to show­case the world’s very best of doc­u­men­tary in an at­tempt to bridge the gap be­tween re­al­ity and truth.

It has three in­ter­na­tional and an­other three na­tional com­pe­ti­tion sec­tions for short, mid-length and fea­ture-length doc­u­men­taries. The fes­ti­val also en­joys nu­mer­ous non-com­pe­ti­tion sec­tions such as Mir­ror of a Fes­ti­val, Our Time, Our Uni­verse and Por­trait.

In the non-com­pet­i­tive sec­tion, doc­u­men­taries from Ger­many, Aus­tria and Switzer­land will be in­tro­duced to the sil­ver screen.
