Iran producing 6.5m face masks a day: Deputy minister

-

Iran is currently producing 6.5 million three-layered and N95 face masks per day, said the deputy minister of industry, mine and trade. Mehdi Sadeqi-niaraki told IRNA on Monday that the surplus production of N95 masks used to be exported for a while, adding, however, at present, Iran has banned the overseas sales of face masks.

The deputy minister said the ban has been placed on exporting N95 masks as, at present, wearing face masks in crowded public places is mandatory in Iran.

He also noted that Iran faces no shortage in the production of alcohol, isolation gowns, disinfectants and different kinds of detergent.

Sadeqi-niaraki said since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, Iran’s production of face masks has increased by 3,000 percent.

“At that time, Iran produced only 200,000 masks per day; whereas, the figure has reached 6.5 million,” he added.
