17th Conference on Policies for Developing Housing in Iran Opens
TEHRAN – The 17th conference on Policies for Developing Housing in Iran was kicked of here yesterday by Minister of Housing and Urban Development Mr. Abbas Akhoundi.
The two-day conference started its work one week after the World Habitat Day. The World Habitat Day is marked on October 3 every year.
The conference was inaugurated by a report which was read by deputy minister Dr. Hamed Mazaherian. The major topics of his report and speech were: government should stay away from interfering in the construction of housing, paying attention to the young couples and those who are after their first house, decayed urban structures, living in the slums, and centralizing social policies for housing for the low-income people.
Then deputy mayor of Tehran Mr. Hojjatollah Mirzaee delivered a speech about challenges for managing Tehran city and issues related to the housing sector.
Meanwhile the head of UN Habitat Office in Tehran Mr. Siamak Moqaddam read the speech of the head of UN Habitat Dr. Joan Clos. The first day of the conference was concluded by a speech from Mr. Akhoundi who pointed to some urban challenges and issues which are common in the country. Dr. Mazaherian who is the secretary of the conference said that the conference will wrap up today.
