17th Conference on Poli­cies for De­vel­op­ing Hous­ing in Iran Opens

TEHRAN – The 17th conference on Poli­cies for De­vel­op­ing Hous­ing in Iran was kicked of here yes­ter­day by Min­is­ter of Hous­ing and Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment Mr. Ab­bas Akhoundi.

The two-day conference started its work one week after the World Habi­tat Day. The World Habi­tat Day is marked on Oc­to­ber 3 ev­ery year.

The conference was in­au­gu­rated by a re­port which was read by deputy min­is­ter Dr. Hamed Maza­he­rian. The ma­jor top­ics of his re­port and speech were: gov­ern­ment should stay away from in­ter­fer­ing in the con­struc­tion of hous­ing, pay­ing at­ten­tion to the young cou­ples and those who are after their first house, de­cayed ur­ban struc­tures, liv­ing in the slums, and cen­tral­iz­ing so­cial poli­cies for hous­ing for the low-in­come peo­ple.

Then deputy mayor of Tehran Mr. Ho­j­ja­tol­lah Mirzaee de­liv­ered a speech about chal­lenges for man­ag­ing Tehran city and is­sues re­lated to the hous­ing sec­tor.

Mean­while the head of UN Habi­tat Of­fice in Tehran Mr. Sia­mak Mo­qad­dam read the speech of the head of UN Habi­tat Dr. Joan Clos. The first day of the conference was con­cluded by a speech from Mr. Akhoundi who pointed to some ur­ban chal­lenges and is­sues which are com­mon in the coun­try. Dr. Maza­he­rian who is the sec­re­tary of the conference said that the conference will wrap up to­day.
