UN Re­gional Cen­ter To Open in Tehran

TEHRAN (ISNA) – As a re­gional in­sti­tu­tion of United Na­tions Eco­nomic and So­cial Com­mis­sion for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Asian and Pacific Cen­tre for the De­vel­op­ment of Disas­ter In­for­ma­tion Man­age­ment (APDIM) will be in­au­gu­rated in Tehran dur­ing a cer­e­mony on Tues­day and Wed­nes­day Jan­uary 30 and 31.

The open­ing cer­e­mony will be held in the pres­ence of of­fi­cials and rep­re­sen­ta­tives of ESCAP’s mem­ber coun­tries.

Si­mul­ta­ne­ously with the in­au­gu­ra­tion of the APDIM, an ad­min­is­tra­tive and fi­nan­cial agree­ment will be signed be­tween the chief of Plan and Bud­get Or­ga­ni­za­tion of Iran and the deputy Sec­re­tary Gen­eral of the United Na­tions and the Ex­ec­u­tive Sec­re­tary of ESCAP.

Mean­while, the sec­ond meet­ing of Gov­ern­ing Coun­cil of APDIM, the re­gional meet­ing on in­for­ma­tion man­age­ment to re­duce and cope with disas­ter, the con­sul­ta­tive meet­ing of re­gional co­op­er­a­tion to deal with dust in Asia-Pacific will be held in Tehran.

Dur­ing the two-day meet­ing, 40 rep­re­sen­ta­tives of ESCAP mem­ber coun­tries will at­tend. They will dis­cuss re­gional dis­as­ters in­clud­ing earth­quake, dust, flood and dif­fer­ent ways of cop­ing with them.
