10th Re­gional Mu­sic Fes­ti­val kicks off in Ker­man

TEHRAN — The 10th Re­gional Mu­sic Fes­ti­val was in­au­gu­rated in the south­ern Ira­nian city of Ker­man on Tues­day.

Bam, Baft, Sir­jan, Zarand, Raf­san­jan and sev­eral other towns in Ker­man Prov­ince are host­ing mu­sic groups from across Iran as well as dif­fer­ent coun­tries dur­ing the fes­ti­val this year, the or­ga­niz­ers have an­nounced.

Ker­man’s Madar Park is the main venue for the per­for­mances tak­ing place dur­ing the event.

Mas­ter musician of Kyr­gyzs­tan Kut­man Sul­tan­bekov, Mo­ham­mad Wali Kha­laj from Afghanistan, and German schol­ars Lisa Gaupp and Lutz Dollereder from Le­uphana Univer­sity of Lueneb­urg are among the for­eign mu­si­cians at­tend­ing the fes­ti­val.

The German mu­si­cians are due to hold work­shops dur­ing their stay in Iran, as well.

The Ira­nian mu­si­cians are com­ing from Bushehr, Hor­moz­gan, Lorestan, Kordestan, West Azarbai­jan, East Azarbai­jan, Fars, Sis­tan-Baluches­tan, South Kho­rasan and many other re­gions of Iran.

The or­ga­niz­ers have also arranged a num­ber of open-air per­for­mances, which are ex­pected to en­ter­tain over 2500 afi­ciona­dos of re­gional Ira­nian mu­sic dur­ing the event run­ning un­til June 30.

The Ker­man Gover­nor’s Of­fice es­tab­lished the sec­re­tar­iat of the fes­ti­val in 2015 based on an agree­ment with the Min­istry of Cul­ture and Is­lamic Guid­ance.

The 9th edi­tion of the event was held dur­ing May 2016 after an eight-year hia­tus.

An academy for re­gional mu­sic is sched­uled to be in­au­gu­rated dur­ing the fes­ti­val.
