Iranian navy thwarts pirate attack in Gulf of Aden
TEHRAN — Iranian navy forces on Monday successfully repelled a major pirate attack on one of the country’s merchant vessels in the Gulf of Aden, ISNA reported.
The vessel was saved by the 48th naval fleet, comprised of Alvand destroyer and Lavan logistic warship, near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The attackers were armed with light and semi-heavy assault weapons in a bid to hijack the ship.
The Alvand destroyer rushed to the area after receiving a distress signal from the vessel.
