Zarif em­barks for Dushanbe to at­tend ECO min­is­te­rial meet­ing

TEHRAN — Ira­nian For­eign Min­is­ter Mo­ham­mad Javad Zarif left Tehran for Ta­jik­istan on Mon­day to take part in the Eco­nomic Co­op­er­a­tion Or­ga­ni­za­tion (ECO) 23rd meet­ing of Coun­cil of Min­is­ters (COM) in the Ta­jik cap­i­tal of Dushanbe the next day, IRNA re­ported.

The 22nd Coun­cil of Min­is­ters meet­ing was held in Is­lam­abad on Fe­bru­ary, 28, 2017.

ECO is an in­ter­gov­ern­men­tal eco­nomic or­ga­ni­za­tion, cre­ated in 1985 by Tur­key, Iran and Pak­istan. Since 1992, the ac­tiv­ity of the or­ga­ni­za­tion has in­ten­si­fied with join­ing of Azer­bai­jan, Afghanistan, Kaza­khstan, Kyr­gyzs­tan, Ta­jik­istan, Turk­menistan and Uzbek­istan.

COM is the high­est pol­icy and de­ci­sion­mak­ing body of ECO. It com­prises the min­is­ters of for­eign af­fairs of the mem­ber states who meet in reg­u­lar, in­for­mal and ex­tra­or­di­nary ses­sions. The Coun­cil of Min­is­ters may, if deemed nec­es­sary, pro­pose the con­ven­ing of meet­ings of other min­is­ters in the for­mu­la­tion of plans and projects in their re­spec­tive fields through sec­toral or joint min­is­te­rial meet­ings.
