Turk­ish po­lice quiz mid­fielder Tu­ran over al­leged fight with pop star

Po­lice ques­tioned Turk­ish in­ter­na­tional mid­fielder Arda Tu­ran late on Thurs­day over re­ports that he fought with a pop star at a night club in Is­tan­bul, the Demiroren news agency (DHA) and other me­dia said. Tu­ran, cur­rently on loan from Barcelona at Turk­ish club Is­tan­bul Basak­se­hir, was sum­moned by a prose­cu­tor to make a state­ment to po­lice af­ter they re­ceived re­ports of the player’s clash with singer Berkay Sahin, DHA said.

It quoted Tu­ran’s po­lice state­ment as say­ing he re­jected al­le­ga­tions he ha­rassed Sahin and that a bul­let fired from his pis­tol when he sub­se­quently went to the hospi­tal where Sahin was be­ing treated for an in­jury was fired by mis­take as he was tuck­ing the gun in his waist.

An Is­tan­bul po­lice spokesman said po­lice had sought a state­ment from Tu­ran. The spokesman did not pro­vide fur­ther de­tails.

Tu­ran joined Barcelona from Atletico Madrid for 34 mil­lion eu­ros (£29.8 mil­lion) in 2015, win­ning six tro­phies, mak­ing 55 ap­pear­ances and scor­ing 15 goals for the Cata­lan side.
