The 8th In­ter­na­tional book fair is held in Er­bil

Pres­i­dent Ma­soud Barzani at­tended the open­ing of the 8th in­ter­na­tional book fair, along­side a num­ber of of­fi­cials and for­eign guests in Sami Ab­dul-Rah­man Park in Er­bil. Al­mada hosted the fair for pub­lish­ing and print­ing in co­op­er­a­tion with Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Government (KRG) Min­istry of cul­ture.

The Pres­i­dent posted on Face­book af­ter at­tend­ing the cer­e­mony open­ing, say- ing, “To­day I at­tended the Er­bil In­ter­na­tional book fair, and such fairs are an in­di­ca­tion of civ­i­liza­tion and part of our cul­ture that respects hu­man thought”. He went on to say “Read­ing de­vel­ops our cul­ture, and en­riches our so­ci­ety”.

The KRG Min­is­ter of Cul­ture noted dur­ing the cer­e­mony “This fair’s im­por­tance is high­lighted through the pres­ence of a large num­ber of in­tel­lec­tu­als, and politi­cians in Er­bil”.

In the 8th in­ter­na­tional book fair, pub­lish­ing com­pa­nies from 17 dif­fer­ent coun­tries contributed and more than 300 var­i­ous or­ga­ni­za­tions at­tended the fair. Nearly 1.5 mil­lion ti­tles in Kur­dish, Ara­bic and English lan­guages are show­cased with dis­counts avail­able on var­i­ous books. The fair will con­tinue for eleven days.
