Dozens of Tourist Projects to be Im­ple­mented

The Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Gov­ern­ment (KRG) ap­proved the bud­get of tourist projects for the year 2013, which in­cluded 45 dif­fer­ent project all over the re­gion.

The to­tal bud­get for all the tourist projects ap­proved is IQD 77.5 bil­lion (ap­prox­i­mately USD 62 mil­lion).

Nadir Rosti, Of­fi­cial Spokesper­son of the Tourism Board of the KRG ex­plained that each of th­ese projects have al­ready been de­signed and dis­trib­uted over the en­tire re­gion.

Rosti stated that 25 out of the to­tal 45 projects are for ren­o­va­tions and dec­o­ra­tions of the tourist at­trac­tions.

“10 projects are for arche­o­log­i­cal sites, which in­clude 2 mu­se­ums, 3 med­i­cal tourism de­vel­op­ment projects, 3 re­li­gious tourist at­trac­tion projects, 2 projects for youth tourism, one project for ad­ven­ture tourism in ad­di­tion to an en­vi­ron­men­tal tourism project,” ex­plained Rosti.

All the projects are im­ple­mented by the Direc­torate Gen­er­als of the Tourism Board in dif­fer­ent ar­eas of Kur­dis­tan, and part of the projects will con­tinue into the next year.

Rosti told the Kur­dish Globe that in ad­di­tion to th­ese projects, there are a num­ber of other tourist projects to be im­ple­mented from the Pro­vin­cial De­vel­op­ment Bud­get.

KRG has re­cently in­creased fo­cus on tourism projects are part of its strate­gic plan­ning for at­tract­ing up to 4 mil­lion tourists by 2015.

More than 2 mil­lion tourists vis­ited the Re­gion dur­ing 2012, and this num­ber is ex­pected to in­crease sig­nif­i­cantly in 2013.
