Dozens of Tourist Projects to be Implemented
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) approved the budget of tourist projects for the year 2013, which included 45 different project all over the region.
The total budget for all the tourist projects approved is IQD 77.5 billion (approximately USD 62 million).
Nadir Rosti, Official Spokesperson of the Tourism Board of the KRG explained that each of these projects have already been designed and distributed over the entire region.
Rosti stated that 25 out of the total 45 projects are for renovations and decorations of the tourist attractions.
“10 projects are for archeological sites, which include 2 museums, 3 medical tourism development projects, 3 religious tourist attraction projects, 2 projects for youth tourism, one project for adventure tourism in addition to an environmental tourism project,” explained Rosti.
All the projects are implemented by the Directorate Generals of the Tourism Board in different areas of Kurdistan, and part of the projects will continue into the next year.
Rosti told the Kurdish Globe that in addition to these projects, there are a number of other tourist projects to be implemented from the Provincial Development Budget.
KRG has recently increased focus on tourism projects are part of its strategic planning for attracting up to 4 million tourists by 2015.
More than 2 million tourists visited the Region during 2012, and this number is expected to increase significantly in 2013.
