Attempts for extending Iraqi Parliament Term

The Kurdish Globe - - NEWS -

Although there are no official requests from any political parties for extending the parliament term, some reports have shown several politicians’ intension for prolonging the parliament’s working period.

A parliament member from Kurdistan Alliance, Aza Abubakir, said there are some attempts made by officials from State of Law Coalition (PM Maliki's coalition) for extending Iraqi parliament’s term for another year.

“This issue has not been put in to a request so far. But we feel that some Parliament members are trying to bring this issue on the table,” said Abubakir

Earlier a Kurdish newspaper revealed that the State of Law coalition bloc is working on the postponement of general elections in Iraq and extend the period of the three presidencies.

The newspaper added that the age of the current round of Parliament will end next year, but State of Law Coalition is preparing for the implementation of a project similar to what happened in the Kurdistan region and extend the mandate of the Iraqi parliament and this implies the extension of the presidency of the republic and the prime minister as well.
