KDP official meets with US Consul General
US and KDP discuss elections, Kurdish National Congress, Iraq and Syria issues
As part of the continuous talks and exchange of ideas with foreign diplomatic representatives, the foreign Relations Department of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Hemin Hawrami, Head of the Department, met on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 with Joseph Pennington, Consul General of the United States of America in Erbil and Sergei Sheratori, head of the political affairs at the US Consulate General in Erbil.
The meeting, which was held at the KDP’s Foreign Relations Office, was attended by a number of the KDP cadres and members of the Department.
Pennington expressed his happiness towards the economic and political developments in Kurdistan Region and reiterated that Kurdistan has successfully maintained its security and stability among all the stability challenges in the region, and yet witness this huge economic development.
Hawrami, on behalf of his party congratulated Pennington for his new position and wished him all success.
Talking about the current issue, Hawrami reiterated his party’s stand regarding elections and that KDP is ready for both parliamentary and provincial council elections. Additionally he explained how the opposition was not supportive in finding mechanisms for solving many important issues in the region.
Hawrami also explained the details and purposes of the Kurdish National Congress, which is planned to be held in Erbil later this year. He said that the aim of this congress is to reemphasize on the rightfulness of its issue and coexistence with other eth- nicities in the region and finding peaceful and democratic solutions.
Other topics discussed between the two parties included the current political situations in Iraq as well as the recent developments in Syria and the situation of the Kurds in that country.
Hawrami explained the supportive role of the KRG towards the Syrian Kurds and the significance of their struggle for their rights.
