President Barzani supports running elections on time
KR Presidency, in a statement, said that President Barzani does not support delaying the parliamentary elections and he wants the elections to be held on time.
“There was recently some news that circulated in the media about the possibility to postpone holding of Kurdistan Parliamentary elections, but to demonstrate the truth declare to people of Kurdistan Presi- dent Barzani has performed his legal duties and set September 21, 201304.asthe date of the elections of the Kurdistan Parliament.” Read the statement
This date has been confirmed by The Kurdistan Parliament under the Law No. 18 for the year 2013. In addition to that, none of the political parties, Kurdistan Parliament, Kurdistan Regional Government, Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), have asked the president Barzani to change the identified date of the elections in Kurdistan.
“We announce that President Barzani is not with the postponement of the elections in any way. And if there are people or parties believed that the postponement of parliamentary elections is in the interest of President of the Region, Barzani sees the elections are ne- cessity to take place as scheduled on September 21.” The statement divulged
According to IHEC, 31 political entities are going to compete for winning 111 seats at the parliament. The parties have already submitted the name of their candidates.
The Region’s last presidential and parliamentary elections were held in the July of 2009.
