Elec­tric­ity prob­lem to be com­pletely erad­i­cated

The Of­fi­cial Spokesper­son of the Min­istry of Elec­tric­ity, Di­yar Ba­ban, an­nounced that a num­ber of strate­gic power pro­duc­tion projects are cur­rently un­der­way at dif­fer­ent sites around the re­gion, which are ex­pected to com­pletely erad­i­cate elec­tric­ity sup­ply prob­lem across the en­tire Re­gion.

The Of­fi­cial Spokesper­son of the Min­istry of Elec­tric­ity, Di­yar Ba­ban, an­nounced that a num­ber of strate­gic power pro­duc­tion projects are cur­rently un­der­way at dif­fer­ent sites around the re­gion, which are ex­pected to com­pletely erad­i­cate elec­tric­ity sup­ply prob­lem across the en­tire Re­gion.

Ac­cord­ing to the Min­istry spokesper­son, the projects cur­rently un­der­way in­clude the ex­pan­sion of the Er­bil Gas Power Plant from its cur­rent power gen­er­a­tion ca­pac­ity of 1 000 MW to 1 500 MW, and the ex­pan­sion of the Cham­chamal Gas Power Plant in Suleimaniya from its cur­rent gen­er­a­tion ca­pac­ity of 1 000 MW to 1 500 MW.

“Other projects in­clude an 800 MW power plant in Zakho and a 750 MW plant in Baziyan in ad­di­tion to a 200 MW power plant project in the So­ran District and an­other 200 MW plant in Qal­adze,” Ba­ban ex­plained in an in­ter­view with a lo­cal Kur­dish ra­dio chan­nel. “Con­tracts for all of these projects have been signed and their im­ple­men­ta­tion will start in the near fu­ture.”

Ac­cord­ing to Ba­ban, the Khor­mala Gas Power Plant in Er­bil is ex­pected to start pro­duc­ing 640 MW out of its full ca­pac­ity of 1 000 MW by Oc­to­ber this year.

“The bud­get for all these projects comes from pri­vate sec­tor in­vest­ments.

“With the completion of these projects, the elec­tric­ity prob­lem in Kur­dis­tan will be com­pleted re­solved and we can sup­ply 24 hours of elec­tric­ity to ev­ery­body in all four sea­sons of the year.”

An ex­te­rior view of the Er­bil Gas Power Sta­tion cur­rently sup­ply­ing a one third of Kur­dis­tan's power and ex­pected to pro­duce 50% more elec­tricty in the near fu­ture.
