Joint team to search for Anfal victims in Nugra Salaman
A team from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and a committee from the Directorate General of Mass Graves from the Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights, is to visit the Province of Samawa to search for the corpses of victims of the Nugra Salman Anfal process.
The joint team has already started looking for victims’ corpses in the province.
Foad Osman, an official spokesperson for the KRG’s Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs, announced that “The team is drawn from the KRG ministerial directorate for Mass Graves, and is working in collaboration with a team from the central government’s mass graves’ directorate to find the corpses”.
Based on the statements from eye witnesses as well as official documents, the KRG has requested that the mass graves near the Nugra Salman Jail be dug up and searched.
According to Iraqi Law 6/2006, the Human Rights Ministry is assigned to protect and dig up the country’s mass graves.
