Kur­dish PM meets his Turk­ish coun­ter­part

The Prime Min­is­ter of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Govern­ment (KRG), Nechir­van Barzani, met his Turk­ish op­po­site num­ber, Re­cep Teyyip Er­doğan, in Konya, a Turk­ish city in Cen­tral Ana­to­lia, on Tues­day De­cem­ber 17 2013.

The meet­ing took place in the con­text of Barzani’s visit to the an­nual Mevlana Ce­lalet­ting Romi Cer­e­monies, a tra­di­tional re­li­gious cel­e­bra­tion in the area, fol­low­ing an of­fi­cial in­vi­ta­tion from Prime Min­is­ter Er­doğan.

Prime Min­is­ter Barzani was ac­com­pa­nied by the KRG Min­is­ter of Nat­u­ral Re­sources (DFR) Dr. Ashti Hawrami, and the KRG’s Of­fi­cial Spokesper­son, Safeen Diza­yee.

Turk­ish For­eign Min­is­ter Ah­met Davu­doglu also at­tended the meet­ing, where talks fo­cused on bi­lat­eral re­la­tions be­tween Turkey and the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion in terms of pol­i­tics, econ­omy, trade and—es­pe­cially--en­ergy.

An­other topic un­der dis­cus­sion was the cur­rent sit­u­a­tions in Syria and its im­pact on the re­gion in gen­eral and Iraq, the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion and Turkey in par­tic­u­lar.

The Turk­ish and Kur­dish pre­miers also dis­cussed in­ter­nal po­lit­i­cal is­sues in Iraq and re­la­tions be­tween Bagh­dad and Er­bil.
