Hemin Hawrami meets Italian Consul and Head of UN mission
The Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Hemin Hawrami met separately with Dr Carmelo Ficarra, the General Consul of Italy in Erbil, and Mr. Sokol Kondi, head of the UN Mission in the city.
The meetings focused on the current issues and situation in the Kurdistan Region as well as the KDP standpoint on current affairs.
During the meeting with Consul Ficarra, Hawrami praised relations between the Kurdistan Region and Italy and called for a further strengthening of bilateral ties.
Hawrami also thanked the UN Mission Head for his organization’s activities in the Region.
Hawrami explained the objectives and significance of Kurdish President Massoud Barzani’s recent European tour, which he described as important and positive.
The political process in Kurdistan Region and Iraq were among the major topics addressed during the meetings. The result of the September 2013 parliamentary election was described as a democratic process.
Hawrami said they are now busy negotiationing with the winning parties about the formation of the new KRG cabinet.
They also discussed the issue of the upcoming Iraqi Parliamentary elections and Erbil-Baghdad relations. Hawrami reiterated that relations between the KRG and the central government are normal and that “we are trying to improve them further.”
Addressing the situation in Syria, Hawrami said the Kurdish leadership had an independent stance in this regard, which is the interest of the Kurds in Syria.
Talking about the oil issue in the Kurdistan Region, the KDP official argued that the Region is fully compliant with the Iraqi constitution and that what they are doing is a natural right of the Kurdistan Region.
