It>s definitely that time of year again! No, no, the reporter is not referring to the Newroz holiday. I>m talking about the Erbil International Book Fair, which will take place this September. Kurdistan>s tenth International Multi Sector Trade Fair has managed to attract over 550 booksellers from over 21 countries eager to promote the sale of their numerous and colorful products. The fair is expected to attract more than 30,000 people.

The Al-Mada publishing house, the organizer of the event, states that: «The Fair aims to reinstate the value of culture as an incentive for raising awareness and development; to emphasize the importance and function of books; to make the Book Fair into an event through which cultural authorities re-emphasize their role; to have an impact through publications or activities that facilitate the dissemination of books so they are available for as many people as possible; to encourage publishers and cultural organizations to expand their publishing and translation activities and keep pace with the progress ongoing worldwide. This could be done by involving intellectuals and writers, and setting up ambitious programs that cover every dynamic and progressive sphere». Of course, these are only a few of the many goals of the Erbil International Book Fair.

Fakhri Kareem, Chair- man of Al-Mada, says: «In its new form, the Erbil Book Fair is an attempt to introduce a new and contemporary approach to books which will prove that culture is the root of all progress and every renaissance. The Erbil Book Fair appreciates the response of participants and will work hard to give their contribution a significance that goes beyond the simple trading of their products. It will do everything to facilitate the acquisition of books by readers, research centers, scholars, universities and cultural houses. This Fair will be unique in the sense that the visitors can enjoy other cultural, artistic and scientific activities beside the exhibited books «.

Hopefully, the Erbil International Book Fair will reintroduce the priceless knowledge of books and be an exciting and memorable event for all.
