Premier Barzani plants “tree of hope”

“Today like other days of Spring, we are together at happy and unhappy occasions. The elections are approaching, and it is a moral and historic responsibility for our people to participate in the elections. One single vote is valuable for us” __ PM Barzan

On the anniversary of National Planting Day on April 16, Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani accompanied by Erbil governor Nawzad Hadi and a number of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) members together with the Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani participated in a planting campaign in a new park in Erbil's Rizgari district.

As the campaign ended, PM Barzani gave a speech and said : "If we destroy the principles of democracy in our country, then we cannot take a rest under its shade because democracy is like a tree and consequently we cannot lead the destiny of our nation towards a brighter future."

"We should never forget the brutal acts of the former Iraqi regime that did against our nation. We should always keep them in mind and learn lessons from them," added the Prime Minister.

"Simultaneously, we should plant ' the tree of hope' for the future generation," said Barzani. He also stated that the KDP is capable of leading Kurdistan towards a brighter future and it proved that in the past.

Regarding the upcoming Iraqi legislative and the Kurdish provincial council elections PM Barzani announced : "We do hope that the people go to the polling stations and cast their votes. They, with no doubt, will vote for the party which is able to lead Kurdistan towards a brighter future."

"The democratic process is like planting a new tree and at the same time a special weather should be provided for its growth. Of course, to prepare such a proper weather and ground, the KDP is capable of doing that," said the Prime Minister Barzani.

"Voting is a moral and a historic responsibility, and participating in the elections is an answer and homage to those people who struggled in the past and scarified their blood to bring about such a day for us. I hope every single individual in Kurdistan feel the responsibility and participate in the elections," continued the PM Barzani.

During his speech, PM Barzani said that to guarantee democracy in Iraq all the people should take part in the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections. By going to the polling stations, the people would participate in strengthening democracy and protecting Kurdistan Region's rights.

"Voting in the provincial council elections would facilitate the KRG's duties, accelerating the public services as well as stimulating economic, social and political growth directly. And the KDP is capable of doing these and proved it in the past," said Barzani at the National Planting Day in Erbil.

"I and several KDP candidates have planted trees today, and for us it means strengthening of the democratic process in Kurdistan," the PM barzani added.

"Voting for the KDP," Barzani said, "is voting for a democratic Kurdistan and the KDP's co-operation with other Iraqi political parties based on the Constitution."

"I am asking Erbil residents to think awhile about the past and the present of the city. Of course, what we have accomplished today is because of the KDP's policy. Stability, peace and construction process are the KDP's major policy," said Mr. Barzani.

"Today all the problems are solved through ballot boxes and it is the sign of a democratic process," said PM Nechirvan Barzani.

"It is necessary that all the eligible people participate in the upcoming elections in order to make the process successful and with no doubt I confirm that one single vote is valuable for us," added the PM Barzani.

Addressing the KDP candidates for the Iraqi legisla- tive and provincial council elections, Barzani said : "I am sure that you can start a new level of construction and development in our country, our cities and our provinces," concluded the Prime Minister Barzani.
