Pres­i­dent Barzani Con­grat­u­lates Kur­dis­tan Jour­nal­ists

On 22nd April, Kur­dis­tan cel­e­brated the 160th an­niver­sary of Kur­dish jour­nal­ism which be­gan with the launch of Kur­dis­tan, the first Kur­dish news­pa­per, on that day in 1898. Pres­i­dent Ma­soud Barzani sent this mes­sage to Kur­dis­tan jour­nal­ists con­grat­u­lat­ing them on 116 years of achieve­ment.

“A free me­dia is a main driv­ing force be­hind po­lit­i­cal, so­cial and eco­nomic de­vel­op­ments. We are pleased that there are many me­dia out­lets in Kur­dis­tan that play a key role in pro­tect­ing na­tional in­ter­ests and in rais­ing aware­ness among our people. It is the duty of all of us to pre­serve this prac­tice” said the Pres­i­dent in his mes­sage.

He fur­ther added, “Po­lit­i­cal forces must pave the way for the me­dia to in­de­pen­dently play its part in our so­ci­ety.”
