Second Annual CDC Fair Job – Duhok
The Kurdistan region of Iraq has been witnessing an economic upturn in recent years and as a result more than 2,300 foreign companies registered here in addition to the 15,000 local ones according to Kurdistan Regional Statistics Office. This creates opportunities to the graduate students to find jobs in order to further develop their capabilities and skills. The public sector continues loading themselves with a high rate of employment and they are not capable enough of providing employment opportunities for everyone. Career Development Center (CDC) has had a major role in opening up opportunities for students and alumni who are actively seeking jobs. Duhok Conference Hall invited a great number of graduate and undergraduate students who were seeking jobs .
About 2000 students attended the Job Fair of CDC that was held a week ago in Duhok Conference Hall. The Job Fair was a recruiting and networking event conducted by the Career Development Center at the University of Duhok and the aim of the event was to let the employers and the employees to know each other. This was done by gathering employers, students, alumni and government representatives together so that they could cooperate to create more job opportunities. The Job Fair 2014 was held for the second time. It was sponsored by the private sector in the Kurdistan region .
The Fair aimed at helping unemployed people, especially university graduates, to find jobs through cooperation with the local employers. Prior to the conference, the vacancies were announced among the university students in Duhok. They were encouraged to seek these jobs or fill in jobseeking forms. Very many foreign companies have at- tended the job fair and were very cooperative with candidates who tried to find a suitable job.
CDC Job Fair objectives
1 To initiate the networking process between prospective professional workers and prospective employers. 2. Allow students to experience real job interviews. 3. Showcase students' skills and competence to employers and sponsors 4. Facilitate the opportunities for the University of Duhok students to be employed 5. Educate students and alumni to pursue their career in the private sector and 6. Stimulate students' interest in career building possibilities. The Career Development Center's sponsors were: Diamond, Dno, Platinum, Zain, Gold, Taqa, Food, Newroz, Silver, Korek, Afren, Bronz Bekhal, Repsol And Oil Serv.
