PM Barzani meets trade del­e­ga­tion from Iran

The Prime Min­is­ter of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Govern­ment Nechir­van Barzani met on Mon­day, 28th April , a trade del­e­ga­tion from the Is­lamic Repub­lic of Iran headed by Rostam Ghasemi , Head of the Iran-Iraq trade de­vel­op­ment com­mit­tee. Ghasemi was ac­com­pa­nied by a num­ber of trade and econ­omy ad­vi­sors, es­pe­cially in the fields of en­ergy and power.

In the meet­ing, the trade and eco­nomic re­la­tions be­tween Kur­dis­tan and Iran and ways to im­prove them were dis­cussed in de­tail.

The two par­ties also dis­cussed how to dou­ble the trade vol­ume be­tween the two coun­tries as well as im­prov­ing mu­tual co­op­er­a­tion in terms of en­ergy.

Par­ties to the meet­ing de­cided to form a num­ber of joint com­mit­tees to study the com­mon ob­jec­tive of both par­ties to im­prove bi­lat­eral ties and im­ple­ment­ing their plans. Two ma­jor pur­poses of the visit were the bor­der is­sues and the co­op­er­a­tion in the oil in­dus­try. A lo­cal Kur­dish news web­site re­ported that the KRG was wait­ing for this del­e­ga­tion for three months, dur­ing which the par­ties did not ex­changed any trade del­e­ga­tions. Ghasemi is one of the se­nior com­man­ders in the Ira­nian Army who has taken sev­eral key roles in the Ira­nian govern­ment such as ad­vi­sor to the Vice Pres­i­dent, ad­vi­sor to the De­fense Min­istry and the Min­is­ter of Oil. He is one of the those who got dis­abled in the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s.

For­eign Pol­icy listed Ghasemi among the 5 most pow­er­ful fig­ures in Iran among the world’s 500 most in­flu­en­tial fig­ures.

Forbes, on the other hands, pub­lished the list of the 10 most in­flu­en­tial fig­ures of the world in 2012, among them Ghasemi’s name was listed.
