PM Barzani meets trade delegation from Iran
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government Nechirvan Barzani met on Monday, 28th April , a trade delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Rostam Ghasemi , Head of the Iran-Iraq trade development committee. Ghasemi was accompanied by a number of trade and economy advisors, especially in the fields of energy and power.
In the meeting, the trade and economic relations between Kurdistan and Iran and ways to improve them were discussed in detail.
The two parties also discussed how to double the trade volume between the two countries as well as improving mutual cooperation in terms of energy.
Parties to the meeting decided to form a number of joint committees to study the common objective of both parties to improve bilateral ties and implementing their plans. Two major purposes of the visit were the border issues and the cooperation in the oil industry. A local Kurdish news website reported that the KRG was waiting for this delegation for three months, during which the parties did not exchanged any trade delegations. Ghasemi is one of the senior commanders in the Iranian Army who has taken several key roles in the Iranian government such as advisor to the Vice President, advisor to the Defense Ministry and the Minister of Oil. He is one of the those who got disabled in the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s.
Foreign Policy listed Ghasemi among the 5 most powerful figures in Iran among the world’s 500 most influential figures.
Forbes, on the other hands, published the list of the 10 most influential figures of the world in 2012, among them Ghasemi’s name was listed.
