Journalists Honored by America – Kurdistan Friendship Association
America – Kurdistan Friendship Association (AKFA) in Pirmam honored some journalists and media outlets on the 114th anniversary of the Kurdish Media. One of the honored newspapers was "The Kurdish Globe".
During the occasion, Kurdish media was said to have taken many steps forward, and this development is appreciated. In the Kurdistan political process, which enjoys a newly-won democratic experience, efforts should be made so that total freedom of media and publishing is guaranteed. It is undeniable that the Kurdish media has taken great steps in this regard; the increasing number of the media outlets signifies this development.
America – Kurdistan Friendship Association stated that they annually will present programs in Kurdistan, including The National Day of Independence, Thanksgiving and Newroz. This Year they organized this honoring ceremony to establish a good relation with the Kurdish media. Umer Farhady, VOA correspondent and the oldest journalist who has been working in the radio for 14 years, gave a speech. Later on, Harry Chaut the Deputy Head of the Association, gave a speech in English regarding the improvements in the Kurdish media and the Kurdistan Region. He said “there’s noticeable improvement of the Kurdish media, this huge gathering here today is a good example. This is an evidence for the wide-ranging developments in this field.” He wished the relation between their association and journalists will be far better in the future so that they would be able to participate directly in the association's programs and agendas.
Afterwards, the Head of the Association, Sirwan Barzani honored media outlets attending the ceremony, including The Kurdish Globe as the only EnglishLanguage newspaper in Kurdistan.
