An­bar Sun­nis meet in Er­bil

Falih Is­sawi, Deputy Head of the Provin­cial Coun­cil of An­bar, told a lo­cal Kur­dish news agency that there is an ef­fort to solve the cri­sis in An­bar Prov­ince and hence it is im­por­tant that all par­ties are united about forc­ing the Iraqi Syr­ian Is­lamic State ISIS in­sur­gents, and that the Iraqi govern­ment to at­tend all the le­git­i­mate de­mands of the demon­stra­tors.

Deputy Head of An­bar Provin­cial Coun­cil ar­rived in Er­bil on May 7th to meet with the re­li­gious men and tribal lead­ers. The pur­pose of the meet­ing was to dis­cuss the cri­sis in the prov­ince.

Khalid Al­wani, mem­ber of the Iraqi Par­lia­ment on the Mut­tahi­doon Bloc, on the other hands said “the news of con­duct­ing a meet­ing among the Sunni lead­ers of An­bar demon­stra­tion and the prov­inces govern­ment au­thor­i­ties is base­less and I have not made any state­ments to any me­dia or­ga­ni­za­tion in this re­gard.”

Iraqi Army ini­ti­ated a mil­i­tary oper­a­tion against the in­sur­gents in the western An­bar prov­ince on De­cem­ber 21, 2013. The oper­a­tion is still con­tin­u­ous.

Ad­di­tion­ally, since four months ago in­sur­gent groups have taken con­trol over the town of Fal­luja in An­bar and con­tin­u­ous fight­ing be­tween the mili­tia groups and the army have left hun­dreds of deaths and in­juries.
