Open discussion about law of right to access to information
For discussing the law of Right to access to information in Kurdistan Region, Media Academy in Iraq in cooperation with the German General Consulate in Erbil held an open discussion in the Kurdish capital city on May 16, 2014.
Many people and journalists from different agencies attended in meeting including: several parliament members from the previous round, representatives of Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate, head of Media departments of several government agencies.
All the attendees were given chance to express their opinion on the law and to make suggestions on how the law can be amended in to better.
“Despite all the shortages and issues, the law is a good achievement for the journalists it allows them to work legally and to get information easier,” said Sarwar Abdurrahman, former Kurdistan parliament member and one of the committee members who prepared the drafted law
The law was passed with the decision (16) in 2013 by the president of Kurdistan Region. The law was passed so as to establish the principles of transparency, presenting accurate information and giving the right t people to access to information.
