US Vice Pres­i­dent Bi­den Speaks with Pres­i­dent Barzani

US Vice Pres­i­dent Joe Bi­den spoke with the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion Pres­i­dent Ma­soud Barzani on Thurs­day. The two dis­cussed the lat­est po­lit­i­cal and se­cu­rity de­vel­op­ments in Iraq and the fail­ure of the Iraqi army in Mo­sul and other ar­eas. They also talked about the up­com­ing first ses­sion of the Iraqi Coun­cil of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives and the role of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion lead­er­ship in the talks. “The Kur­dis­tan Re­gion has al­ways been a part of the so­lu­tion but the be­hav­ior of cer­tain people in Bagh­dad has led to the cur­rent cri­sis,’ said Pres­i­dent Barzani, em­pha­siz­ing the new sit­u­a­tion in Iraq, the na­ture of re­la­tion­ship be­tween Bagh­dad and the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion has en­tered a new phase. “in spite of this, as it has al­ways been our po­si­tion, we will con­front ter­ror­ists and we con­sider them to be a threat to all sides. The Pres­i­dent also stressed that all out­stand­ing prob­lems in the coun­try must be re­solved through po­lit­i­cal means, and that all sides must re­solve to ad­dress these is­sues based on con­sen­sus and power-shar­ing.
